8 Ways To Sell Your Stuff Better

In my last post I told you where you can sell your clothes and things online, if you have found the perfect platform for you, then you can start putting your stuff online. But how do you sell well? I was working as a sales assistant for more than 5 years and I learnt how important a good service is. Everybody loves good service that is why my first advice is:

I. BE POLITE

This is just  basic rule for every aspect in your life, being polite doesn’t cost you anything and buyers are more likely to buy a product from you when you are polite. Also many communities just as Shpock or Kleiderkreisel give the buyers the opportunity to write reviews about the seller. If you only have bad ratings you won’t attract new buyers, because a lot of people read reviews first before they buy something. If not, they won’t buy either if you are not polite.

II. HAVE CLEAR GUIDELINES

Even if you are selling your old things on a private basis, having clear guidelines will protect you from problems in the future. For example if you don’t accept returns but don’t state it in your guidelines, buyers will make some trouble to get their money back! I had this problem once and since then I am having a big list of guidelines.

III. PUNCTUALITY

This is also a part of getting good ratings from buyers. Don’t take too much time when you have to ship a package, the buyer will ask you where his or her jeans is, if you don’t ship them on time and will make some stress if they are impatient. If you only run once a week to the post office, write it in your guidelines !

IV. TAKE GOOD PHOTOS

Bright and sharp photos attract more people to click on your entire catalogue of products than dark and blurry photos. They want to know WHAT you sell and how it looks like, I mean, you wouldn’t buy anything if you don’t know how your jeans e.g. will look like, right?

V. DESCRIBE YOUR PRODUCTS

It saves  you a lot of trouble if you write the faults of the product down, so do it! Don’t try to hide them, because people can find out and write you a bad review as a seller then

VI. OFFER SOME SPECIALS

You could give the buyer the option to ship to them for free if they buy more than 3 products, so you can get rid of your things faster.

VII. WRITE A LITTLE THANK YOU NOTE

Even if I just sell some old products, I  see it as my own little shop, so I like to write a little thank you note for buying to them, so they will leave me a nice review or browse through my catalogue again. I also send some samples sometimes too to them, like little creams, perfumes, etc.

VIII. WRAP YOUR THINGS SAFELY FOR THEM

If you are sending a perfume, then think of a safe packaging. You don’t want your buyer to receive a broken perfume – you will loose a product and the buyers looses their money. Or worse, you have to pay back the money to them ( that’s why you need guidelines! )

I hope these tips were helpful and I wish you a lot of fun selling your old stuff!

Love
